RS Platou, established in 1936, is today a leading international ship and offshore broking firm and an investment bank. They serve the shipping and offshore industry worldwide by providing services within chartering, sale and purchase and contracting of ships and offshore units.  Their London offices were established in 1 June 2009 and have recently relocated to new office space in Cheapside, London.

Brief: RS Platou wanted to showcase their brand new office space and create a reception area which would have maximum visual impact for their clients and reflect the quality of the new surroundings.  They also needed to increase storage space and provide a defined breakout area for staff.

How we approached the project

The main focus of the project was to create a reception design that would create the right visual impression.  The space required a reception desk that would have the maximum impact and a high quality finish, but needed to work within the parameters of the existing wooden floor.  A curved reception desk was installed in walnut veneer with contrasting aluminium kick plate and detailing. A luxury leather sofa and designer coffee table were also used to ensure maximum comfort whilst clients were waiting for meetings.

 
As well as the reception desk, there was a lack of storage in the new offices.  The solution was to utilise an existing redundant space in a meeting room and install a custom built storage wall.  This maximised the storage capacity without encroaching on available space for desks elsewhere in the offices. 

A small breakout area was also created for the employees using a bistro table and 4 chairs.
